FAQ

Common questions, answered honestly.

Is there an initiation fee?

No. VRC does not charge an initiation fee. You pay your annual dues and start playing.

When does the membership year run?

The playing season runs May 1 to April 30. Each membership season begins May 1 of every year.

Do Squash and Badminton members really get Fitness for free?

Yes. Full Fitness Area access — including sauna and steam room — is included with Squash and Badminton memberships. No add-on, no extra fee.

Can I pay monthly instead of annually?

Yes — a pre-authorized monthly installment plan is available on annual memberships. The 3-month Trial Membership must be paid in full and is not eligible for installments. Contact the office to set up an installment plan.

Are dues refundable?

No. Dues are non-refundable regardless of illness, injury, pregnancy, or vacation. Please consider this carefully before applying.

How does the 3-month Trial work?

Trial Memberships are available May through January each season, for new members only, once per lifetime. They must be paid in full and do not include guest privileges. Past members are not eligible. Five categories are offered: Adult, Spouse, Senior 65+, Youth/Family 19 – 24, and Student 25 – 30.

Can I bring a guest?

Member guests are permitted and must be registered at the front desk on each visit. Trial Members and Junior Members cannot bring guests.

Are there hour restrictions for juniors?

Yes. Junior members may only play during hours designated by the Badminton or Squash Directors, must leave by 6:00 PM on weekdays and 8:00 PM on Saturdays, and cannot bring guests.

Is there a wait list?

Some categories may be subject to a wait list. If a wait list is in effect, Out-of-Town and Social members cannot convert to full membership mid-season but receive priority for the following year. Contact the office for current availability.

What documentation do I need?

Spouse, Senior, Youth, Family Youth, Student, and Junior categories require proof of eligibility — age, enrolment, or spousal relationship. The application form lists accepted documents.

Do you charge GST?

Yes — GST (5%) is added to all membership fees, locker rentals, and add-ons.

Is there free locker space?

Yes. The club has designated Daytime Lockers that are free for members to use — just bring your own lock and the locker is yours for the day. If you would like a dedicated locker year-round, Medium and Large locker rentals are available as add-ons.

Where is the club, and how do I get there?

We're at 4867 Ontario Street, at the corner of Ontario Street and 33rd Avenue — Queen Elizabeth Park is just west and Nat Bailey Stadium just north. Full directions and a map are on our Contact page.

Is there parking?

On-site parking is reserved for members and requires a valid VRC parking sticker displayed on your vehicle. Cars parked outside the marked spots, or without a sticker, are towed at the owner's expense. You can check live availability with the Check Free Parking button on any page.

Is there a dress code?

Yes — neat, proper sports attire for badminton, squash, or fitness, and only non-marking indoor court shoes on court (no street shoes). The full policy is in our Rules & Regulations.

Do you offer drop-in play for non-members?

No — drop-in sessions are for members and their guests only. If you'd like to try the club first, our 3-month Trial membership is the best way in. See Guest Privileges for bringing a guest.

Can I rent the club for a private event?

Yes — several spaces (including the banquet room) are available to rent, with member and non-member rates. See Space Rentals for the full list, pricing, and the booking form.
