Vancouver Racquets Club

This is a ranking points U23/Open series event. It is recognized by Badminton BC and Badminton Canada as a qualifying event for BC U23 and BC Open Provincials and U23 and Senior National Championships. All participating athletes will be awarded ranking points based on their final finish in a draw.
A new rankings points table will be proposed on or before September 20th, 2019.

Age Groups and Events:
Competitive juniors are encouraged to participate.
Age groups for participants for the 2019-2020 season are determined by the criteria below:
▪ U23 (born in 1998 or later)-Players are eligible to compete in this age category provided they remain under 23 years of age throughout the 2020 calendar year in which the National Championships are held.
▪ Open (any age)

Event Categories:
Women Singles (WS) Mens Singles (MS) – U23 & Open
Womens Doubles (MD) Mens Doubles (MD) – U23 & Open
Mixed Doubles (XD) – U23 & Open
Each participant may enter a maximum of 3 events.

Entry Fees:
First Event-$65.00
Second Event-$5.00
Third Event-$5.00

Note: Surcharge of $40+GST for late registrations received on November 26, 2019 before 6:00 pm.

Entry Fee includes: Tournament t-shirt, shuttles (two shuttles per match until finals), snacks on Saturday evening at the conclusion of matches, medals for winners and runner-ups of A Events. Winners of B and C Events will receive a merchandise prize.

Entries without payment will not be accepted.
No manual entries will be accepted.
Changes to an entry are not permitted after the final entry deadline.
Entries in doubles and mixed doubles, both players must be entered within the same entry deadline or they will be partnered with another player if available.

Schedule & Format (tentative):
Friday, December 6, 2019: Mixed Doubles, starts at 6:00 pm
Saturday, December 7, 2019: Singles and Doubles, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Sunday, December 8, 2019: Semis, Finals, starts at 9:00 am

U23/Open Series events
All events will elimination main round and consolation. Exception: depending on the number of entries and the size of the draw, a round robin/pool play format may be used.  Draw Format will be adapted based on number of entries.

Partner requests, changes, and pairings will be accepted up until the registration deadline; thereafter will only be accommodated if the draw is not affected

Partner request pairings and seeds will be posted by the Friday (7 days before the event) for review. Questions or clarifications must be raised to tournaments@badmintonbc.com before the draw is published.

Draws and start times will be posted by Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 11:59 pm via Tournament Software.

Rules for Players:
1. The rules of Badminton BC and those of Badminton Canada are in effect – 10 minute default rule applies and 3 minute warm up period.
2. Players must advise the draw desk within 5 minutes of the end of their first match loss if they do not wish to play consolations.
3. Players are required to be ready to play at least 10 minutes before their scheduled match.
4. Players are recommended to be at the tournament venue at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match.  No additional warm up time will be allotted for players arriving late.

Saturday evening at the conclusion of play there will be snacks provided.

Withdrawals and refunds:
1.Withdrawal before the registration deadline will receive a full refund.
2.Withdrawal after the deadline but before the draws are done will receive a refund less a $15+gst service charge.
3.Withdrawal due to a medical issue will receive a full refund provided a signed physician note is received by Badminton BC staff in 1 day in advance of the first day of the competition.
4.Withdrawal from an event due to a partner medical illness will receive a refund for that event provided they are not reassigned/or request another partner already registered for the tournament.
5.All refunds will be performed after the event has finished.

Athletic Attire:
Appropriate athletic attire is required when on court. Wear only indoor used footwear; non-marking runners only.

Players will be held in accordance with Badminton Canada’s Competition Uniform Policy also adopted by Badminton BC. Officials reserve the right to ask competitors to change inappropriate clothing. Shorts that extend below the knee are deemed inappropriate clothing. Final decision will be made by the Tournament Referee.

All players in BC are highly recommended to wear protective eyewear meeting the ASTM
F803 standard whenever there are more than two players on the same court, at all Badminton BC circuit events, Provincial Championships, and sanctioned events. Goggles must be worn over top of prescription glasses.

First Aid Services:
Emergency first aid, AED and ice is available.

Stringing Services:
The VRC Pro Shop may be open for stringing and purchases.

Badminton BC, its representative and successors reserve all rights to
reproduce, for the purpose of illustration, fund raising, advertising or publication in any
manner, any photographs taken by Badminton BC or affiliated members, clubs, contractors
or staff during this event.

At the time of registration, all participants must be current members in good standing with Badminton BC (valid from June 1 through May 31 of each year) for the 2019-2020 season.
When registering players will be automatically prompted if their membership needs to be renewed or invalid and requires upgrading.
U23/Open Series event requires a Competitive Provincial Membership $55
For those players participating in only one U23/Open Series event in the season a Single Event $20 membership can be purchased.
To avoid disappointment do not leave your registration to the last moment in the event you need assistance with membership renewal or tournament registration.
