Welcome to another year of In-House Doubles Squash League 2010-11. Season will start approximately at the beginning of October. We encourage beginners and old-timers to join, as we try to match up games of equal caliber.
The In-House Doubles Squash (IHDS) League is primarily focussed on members playing with other members in an effort to build member camaraderie. A secondary aim is to 'construct' the teams on court to have a competitive match. We have attempted to do this by using a 'ranking' of players in order to provide the correct mix on the court. Unfortunately, the depth of IHDS players has either placed a ranking imbalance on court or caused some players to meet the same group many times over. Compounding this has been the replacement of a selected player with a spare who often is not an equivalent skill level substitute.
That's the current make up of IHDS League scheduling. We propose that the regular Thursday night for this league remain in this structure. We hope that the number of players increases such that the problems as stated in the first paragraph disappear. We don't advocate moving to a set team format as many set teams exist in the Inter-Club Doubles Squash League occurring on Wed night. We could be misinformed by which a Team Box Ladder format for Thursday would be possible (4 teams in each box for a 1-up and 1-down result).
We further propose a new structure to the Monday night extension of the league. Founded upon the great fun enjoyed by all in the Gamble 100, we offer a structure that uses a handicap value on each player in order to achieve a similar handicapping that occurs in the Gamble by using age. We feel that players can be reasonably assessed a handicap value from zero to nine. Each team will combine their handicap totals and then the difference between the teams will be calculated. The team with any residual will start each game with that point value already 'in hand'. The team having the zero score to start will have the first serve. Games will be to 15 points. The last game will not have Set Points, if starting at 10 minutes, or less, remaining in the court time. Any spare(s) will have their own handicap value used in the calculations in order to present a 'truer' competitive aspect.
Example: Team A has players with handicaps of 1 and 6 which totals to 7. Team B has players with handicaps of 2 and 2 which totals to 4. Team A will start the serve at 0-3.
Matches need to be entered into the QuickDraws Ranking System in order to have re-calculation of handicaps throughout the season. The current handicaps will be posted on the Doubles Squash Notice Board on the upper deck bulletin board.
Your comments on these proposals are desired.
